FAQs

It’s not possible to identify a specific Cort model based solely on the serial number. Serial numbers primarily indicate the production date. For example, if a serial number begins with “0010”, the guitar was made in October 2000. However, instruments manufactured before the mid-1990s often have randomly generated serial numbers that don’t follow this format. In such cases, the best approach is to send photos of the instrument to the Customer Service team, who can compare them with archive records to help identify the model.

Changes in humidity levels are the greatest danger to your guitars. High humidity can even cause woods to swell and distort. Low humidity is also bad for guitars. You should have a room humidified to 45%~48%. It’s especially important to not allow the guitars to get cold and then warm too quickly. Cort guitars are built in our factories with sufficient humidity control.

There are two types. Generally, an L-shaped Allen wrench with a 4mm diameter is used (caution: not 3/16″). For All Solid models produced in Dalian, China, 120mm long Allen wrenches are included.

Simply, you can hang your strap on the neck. It does no harm to the neck of your instrument to tie the strap on the peghead. The most popular location for a strap button is in the treble side heel of the neck down. Be sure to pre-drill the strap buttonhole and assure the strap draws perpendicular to the button and that it is very secure. You can also put the strap button directly in the heel cap. It's the easiest area to touch up if you remove the button later. Drill a pilot hole for the strap button screw. We strongly recommend the strap button be installed by a qualified repair person.

We recommend that you not use the standard guitar ‘polish' on satin finish guitars. Use a cotton cloth slightly moistened with water to wipe and clean the body and neck. We don't advise the use of too much wax or guitar polish. Also moist cloths should never be used on non-finish areas, like fingerboard and bridge. Avoid polishes containing abrasives, wax, or silicone. There are some questions about silicone and the effect it has on all finishes. We do not believe that silicone will cause any direct damage to our gloss finish.

We have been using D'Addario 80/20 bronze strings for many years. While strings are a matter of personal preference, it's as easy as changing strings to try for yourself and see which strings fit your taste . The large body dreadnoughts and jumbos are fine with medium or light gauge strings, but please note that small-bodied guitars are braced lightly. Small-bodied guitars are not suited for medium gauge strings as the extra string tension can damage the top.

Check the condition of your instrument and readjust it following the Cort Factory Setup guide first and if you can still find the string buzz on it, raise actions slightly higher following the guide below.

  • Buzz on 1st to 5th Frets: Raise the height of the nut slots
  • Buzz on 5th to 12th Frets: Adjust the neck relief by loosening the truss rod
  • Buzz on 12th Frets and higher: Adjust string action

But If you are not sure about the causes or you are not confident about what to do about the problems outlined above, it's best to consult a professional guitar technician at an authorized Cort dealer.

Please note that for Gold Series models, a 12cm long hex wrench is required, as the adjustment point is located deeper inside the neck.
